Why Do You Paint Faces?
People often ask me why I paint portraits.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to faces.
As a child, I constantly doodled faces.
I even collected beautifully hand-painted ceramic masks — long before I knew what I would do with art.
There has always been something about faces that pulls me in. Especially artistic faces.
Over the years, I’ve discovered something about the art of portraits: when someone paints faces, they’re often not really painting someone else. They’re exploring themselves.
And here’s a little secret - you do not need drawing skills to create a meaningful portrait.
You need curiosity, a willingness to play, and someone to guide you through the process.
If you’ve ever felt drawn to faces — or to trying something new for yourself — I’d love to invite you to my upcoming Mixed Media Portraits Workshop.
No drawing skills required. I will provide reference photos and show you how to transfer the image onto your canvas.
All supplies provided.
I’ll guide you step by step, from first marks to final details.
This workshop isn’t about hyper realism, it’s about expression.
You can read all the details and register here: Faces in Colour: A Mixed Media Portraits Workshop
Please feel free to email me at jenn@jennbestcreative if you have any questions.
PS. The Art of Journaling is on Wednesday, January 28th.
